They usually depict animals and objects, while the ones now found near Pyramid Lake are geometric designs. Although the ancient petroglyphs were found on the Paiute Tribe’s reservation land, they are so old that it cannot be determined who carved them, or why. Some of the patterns have diamond shapes, V-shapes, while others looks like the branch of a tree.
They are of high quality. The ancient people who carved them must have been more advanced than previously thought. What could these petroglyphs represent? They were certainly carved with a purpose. They must symbolize or describe an important element in ancient human culture.
Could it be a stellar map, that helped ancient people tell time? Some early form of mathematics, that helped them predict the weather? Perhaps ancient man was trying to preserve a message for the future. There could be information hidden in these petroglyphs that we are not yet ready to understand..
