ARCHAEOLOGY - Ancient Mesopotamia, present-day Iraq, could reveal a lot about our ancient history. The area has been closed off for a long time and there is a lack of much-needed archeological research. But now a new dig has started by British archaeologists and recent finds are promising.

Near the suspected location of the ancient city of Ur, an ancient complex has been found. It is a 260 feet square courtyard with rooms around it. For now the site has been dated at 2,000 BC, but the search continues for artwork or inscriptions that could give more information. It must have been a place of worship, since a plaque has been found depicting a person approaching some holy place in worship.

Abraham, the spiritual father of the world’s main religions, is thought to have been born in Ur. It is a mystery how the first city-states in human history came to exist and what actually happened in those days.

The Bible states that Abraham was from “Ur of the Chaldeans”. The area was Sumerian at the time. Who were the Chaldeans, the Sumerians, and who was Abraham? If the archeological digs continue, we may soon learn a lot of new things.
